Last month I had the opportunity to provide a presentation concerning maintenance contract management at a course organized by Federated Press. It was a great opportunity to focus on the FMS portion of the services offered by CFMS.(For those who don’t know, CFMS stands for Commissioning and Facilities Management Services) My specific topic for the presentation was “Drafting the Contract: Key Conditions and Content” which is a keen interest of mine as I’ve had the opportunity to develop and refine a bid document standard and format for facilities, mechanical & electrical services over the past few years. This bid document has been successfully utilized by our clients such as the Bank of Nova Scotia (National Level), Honda Canada and currently for the YWCA Toronto.
Although I was in attendance to present my expertise in maintenance contract management, I enjoyed and learned new insights from all the speakers that day and as well, had an opportunity to engage with representatives from the manufacturing and government sectors. Some of the key concerns that were identified included contractor performance, developing the process for RFPs’, how to align services and doing more for less when determining which in-house services to maintain and what can be effectively outsourced.
