Our September Roundup

Hard to believe another September has rolled around already, and the specter of 2022 is looming already. It’s been a year and half, living in a pandemic world, where the landscape is ever shifting. Though CFMS continues to operate out of a virtual office, we’ve been busier than ever. Summers are typically busy for us, as schools use the downtime to get work done while students and staff are on summer break. As schools gear up to open after a year last year when they were mostly shut down due to the pandemic, this year is extra busy as they prepare to once again welcome students through their doors. We are pleased to continue our relationships with schoolboards, like the long term York Region and Simcoe County District School Boards, helping ensure quality control in their ongoing construction and renovation projects.

It’s exciting to see post secondary schools also getting excited to welcome students back on campus. A couple of student centres we provided commissioning for officially opened just before or during the pandemic, so it’s nice to think about amazing facilities like the Nipissing University Student Union Centre and Laurentian University Student Centre being enjoyed by students. And with Durham College’s Skills Training Centre set to open this year, how great is it that students will be able to make the most of it.

Community Centre projects have been keeping us busy as well, and the pandemic has certainly illustrated the importance of community and activity for our mental health. Hopefully by the time facilities like the under construction Bessarion Community Centre open to the public, we will be able to enjoy them fully. Facilities like the North East Scarborough Community Centre give us something to look forward to a few years down the road.

We are also busy with several condominium and long term care projects, as well as a variety of other exciting projects, like the Ottawa Public Library/Library Archives Canada newly named Ādisōke joint facility and the West Whitby Health Centre. We have partnerships, both new and old, with architects, developers, contractors, and owners that we value and have helped make what’s been a difficult time the world over a better time for us at CFMS. 2022 may be looming, but we have much to look forward to.
