Project Blog – Caledon Fire Station 310

Progress is underway at Caledon Fire Station 310 scheduled to open in December 2025! This state-of-the-art 15,000 square foot facility being built for the Town of Caledon will feature three spacious apparatus bays, offices, training and education spaces, a crew dormitory, and more—designed to support the growing needs of emergency services in the community. It will be Caledon’s first net zero energy fire station.

Heating is provided through a combination of in-floor heating (supported by a boiler plant) and a variable refrigerant flow system. The VRF system also provides cooling throughout the building in the summer season. Unit heaters, baseboard heaters and force flow heaters assist in heating the entry-ways, service areas and perimeter of the fire hall, with a stand-alone AC unit tempering the warm air in the IT room. Fresh air is introduced through a roof-mounted make-up air unit.

In our role Commissioning, we verify that pressure testing of the in-floor heating system is completed without issue. This is critical as the tubing is eventually covered in concrete, making leaks and performance issues difficult to assess and resolve.

The commissioning process demands we check all facets of the HVAC systems for installation, functionality and performance. This ensures the owners are handed over a building that is complete and matches the specifications outlined by the M&E consultants, the architects and representatives from the Town of Caledon.

We look forward to seeing the building finished, and CFMS Cx Project Manager Allan (AJ) Hearn hopes to be invited to the grand opening so he can bring his son, as cheering for fire trucks seems to be one of his favorite pastimes.
