We refer to this large scale project by a rather large and lengthy name, but what exactly does the Canoe Landing Community Recreation Centre, Schools and Daycare project comprise of? Here is the how the City of Toronto describes this large scale project CFMS is providing commissioning for:
Canoe Landing Community Recreation Centre and Park are our common grounds in the City Place neighbourhood. This integrated multi-use facility is one of the last City-building pieces for this developing community and will include:
• Canoe Landing Community Recreation Centre
• Canoe Landing Child Care Centre
• Bishop Macdonell Catholic Elementary School,
serving 550 children from kindergarten to grade eight
• Jean Lumb Public School, serving 550 children
from kindergarten to grade eight
The services will help ensure families living in this higher-density neighbourhood will have access to amenities that make a thriving neighbourhood.
The City, TDSB and the TCDSB entered into an agreement where the City will continue to own the land while the two school boards will hold leases.
To finance the construction of this new facility, revenue was collected from development projects in the Railway Land area that has now become City Place.
There are approximately 20,000 people living in the Railway Lands area, which currently have limited access to local schools, childcare or public recreation facilities.
The new facility will be located at the corner of Fort York Boulevard and Brunel Court, next to Canoe Landing Park.
CFMS Project Manager Jurij Dziuba is currently working on this project designed by ZAS Architects, with the schools slated to open in January 2020 and the Daycare and Community Recreation Centre in the spring of 2020.
