Project Blog – Joan and Martin Goldfarb Gallery – York University

CFMS has provided commissioning for notable York University projects such as the Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence, the New Student Centre, and most recently, the Neuroscience Laboratory and Research Building (underway) and the Joan and Martin Goldfarb Gallery which opened in November 2024.

Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the 12,000 square-foot building wraps four galleries around an intimate gathering space, providing the flexibility to highlight the gallery’s permanent collection, as well as combine for larger, temporary exhibits. It is connected to the Accolade East Building and located next to the Centre for Film and Theatre, making for a well-rounded arts complex on the York University campus.

Here is what CFMS Cx Project Manager Jurij Dzuiba (P.Eng., CCP, CEM, LEED AP BD+C) has to say about the project:

The Joan and Martin Goldfarb Gallery project was an interesting building to work on, specifically since it was required to meet Class A art gallery temperature and humidity control. Our initial commissioning helped ensure the mechanical systems maintaining indoor conditions were properly set up and operating as intended with consistent control. With the heating season coming to an end, we were able to verify through trend logs that temperature and humidity throughout the gallery remained within the allowable tolerances. In the next few months, it will be critical to verify operation of the mechanical systems in cooling operation and ensure allowable tolerances are maintained during the shoulder and summer seasons. The experience and knowledge we gain from this project will surely be applied to the Thunder Bay Art Gallery project, which is another Class A gallery facility which CFMS is working on.

CFMS is proud to include this stunning project for the arts and education in our portfolio.
