The CFMS and Family Tree Planting Day

The sun was shining.  The sky was clear.  There was a light breeze.  What a great way to kick our 25th year in business.  CFMS employees and their families met at 9:00am, Saturday June 3 at the Kortright Centre parking lot to plant some trees.  We participated in a program offered through TRCA.  Before walking to the planting site, we were given an introduction and the itinerary for our morning.  We walked over to pick up the shovels and gloves and were given a brief but thorough safety orientation.  Then off to the planting site when we received simple instructions on how to plant the trees.  There were 130, yes 130 potted trees and shrubs strategically positioned to be planted and mulched.  I looked up after planted a few shrubs and thought, ‘This is going to take a while.’  But as the saying goes, ‘Many hands make light work.’ and before we knew it the last plant was safely planted and it was time for lunch.  Lunch sure tasted great after such a busy morning.  The weather was perfect.  It was so much fun to see the little ones running around and to see how much the older children (some not children any more) have grown.

It is the employees that make CFMS such a great company to part of and it was the employees and their beautiful families that made our tree planting excursion such a successful day – many thanks to them.  And thanks to the TRCA, the Living City Foundation and Kortright Centre for offering such a great experience.  It was great to get our hands dirty and make a difference.
